Get ready to dig out your favorite concert t-shirts for an unforgettable weekend at GIG – The Art of Michigan Music. This first annual 3-day celebration of music and art will be center stage at ART 634 in Jackson, Michigan, from November 8-10, 2024. Hosted by GIG – The Art of Michigan Music Foundation, a nonprofit celebrating Michigan’s vibrant music scene through visual art, this celebration promises to be the highlight of the year.

Tickets are on sale now, starting at $25, for this unique festival that pulls back the curtain to reveal the visual artists that make the music shine. This year’s event spotlights 22 graphic artists and photographers who create the iconic band photos, concert posters, T-shirt designs, and album covers that define our musical culture. Some of their art will be on display in an art exhibit during the 3-day festival.

“We have an incredible community of super talented artists who create those killer posters and take those amazing concert photos that we all love so much,” said Chuck Marshall, event organizer and co-founder of Life In Michigan. “GIG is an opportunity to celebrate these artists and immerse yourself in the art that makes music shine. It’s like having a backstage pass to Michigan’s music and art scenes–while also enjoying the show.”

Event Highlights

  • Friday Evening: The VIP party where you can meet the artists and snag some exclusive GIG swag. Myron Elkins is headlining a stellar line-up of Michigan music.

  • Saturday Evening: Full afternoon of educational sessions for everyone, including a live podcast interview with our featured gig poster artist. Happy hour media mixer followed by a concert that brings together some of Michigan’s best bands including our headliner Nathan Walton and the Remedy.

  • Sunday Afternoon: Sunday Music Market – it’s the perfect place to hunt for vinyl records, unique T-shirts, and posters and meet and interact with local bands and artists.

Why come to GIG?

The short answer: because you love music. GIG is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of Michigan’s rich musical and artistic heritage. “Many, if not all, music enthusiasts have spent time looking at album covers, pictures in magazines or online of an artist they loved. They may have posters they cherish. There is a synergy with that visual aspect, that imagery that comes with music. It creates a total package,” said Marshall. “But how many know who the graphic artists or photographers are?” That is where GIG comes in. It is a chance for Michigan’s community of music lovers, musicians, and artists to come together and share their passion and shine a spotlight on some of Michigan’s talented artists.”

Join us from Friday through Sunday on November 8-10, 2024, at ART 634 in Jackson. Celebrate, explore, and get inspired by Michigan’s incredible art and music! Stay all weekend–we’ve secured special rates at select local hotels, but they must be booked by October 8th.
