Salem Area Historical Society
EVENT: SAHS Annual Barn Dance. “Bow to your partner, bow to your corner….” will be heard often at the Annual Barn Dance. Admission at the door is $5.00 per person. The Square Dance Caller will assist dancers with all levels of experience. Families and groups are encouraged to attend.
SPEAKER: Tyler Moll: Eloise Asylum; The complete history of Eloise, the Wayne County Poorhouse and Asylum from its very beginnings to present. The Wayne County House as it was called was created all the way back in the 1830s and became one of the largest Asylums and Poor farms in the state. Talk includes what life was like, what kinds of people ended up there, and dispel some myths that have popped up around it. Eloise closed in 1978, but some parts of it still continue to this day.
EVENT: Annual Dinner / Auction. This is a Multi-Course 2-Entrée Buffet Dinner, a silent auction, a live auction and Fun for all. Auction items include: Tickets to area attractions, gift cards, sports memorabilia, historical items, gift baskets and much more. All proceeds will be used to maintain the South Salem Stone School and the Dickerson Barn.
