Ypsilanti Independence Day Parade Organizer Steps Down After Nine Years
of Service

After nearly a decade of dedicated leadership, Angel Vanas, leader of Ypsi
Parade and owner of Star Studio, has announced that she will be stepping down as the
organizer of the Ypsilanti Independence Day Parade.
“Organizing this parade has been an incredible journey and a true labor of love,” said Vanas.
“However, the demands of running a growing business and the increasing complexities of
organizing such a large event have led me to this difficult decision.”
Under Vanas’s leadership, the Ypsilanti Independence Day Parade became one of the most
diverse and celebrated events in the region, drawing over 10,000 attendees annually. The
parade showcased a vibrant cross-section of the community, from local businesses and
community groups to artists and performers.
Due to the timing of this decision, there will be no parade in 2025. The deadlines for necessary
permits and funding have already passed. However, Vanas is optimistic about the future of the
event and encourages interested community members to step forward.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for a new generation of leaders to step up and continue this
beloved tradition,” Vanas added. “I am more than willing to assist anyone who wants to take on
the role for future years.”
