YANKEE AIR MUSEUM TO PARTICIPATE IN BLUE STAR MUSEUMS

Yankee Air Museum is one of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer

Yankee Air Museum is announcing its participation in the tenth- annual Blue Star Museum program. This collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America offers free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel and their families. The program is running now and continues through Labor Day. A list of participating museums is available at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

“As always, we are proud to participate in the Blue Star program,” said Kevin Walsh, Executive Director of Yankee Air Museum. “Military personnel and their families make tremendous sacrifices so that we can enjoy freedom and liberty in the U.S. We are very glad to host them at our Museum, at no charge, to enjoy aviation history.”
Walsh said Yankee Air Museum has been a Blue Star Museum for years and believes it’s a small, but important way of giving back to our men and women in the military. He says the Museum staff and volunteers enjoy talking with the families and listening to their experiences.
“As we launch the tenth summer of Blue Star Museums, it remains a privilege for the National Endowment for the Arts to serve members of the military and their families through this program,” said Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “…There are so many wonderful opportunities for military families to share a memorable experience exploring our nation’s museums.”

This year’s participating Blue Star Museums represent a wide range of interests – arts, aviation, science, history, the natural world, and children’s museums. Over 680,000 families participated in the Blue Star program in 2018, and the Yankee Air Museum is thrilled to participate again in 2019.

Yankee Air Museum, located at 47884 D Street, Belleville, Michigan on the grounds of historic Willow Run Airport, is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
