WOMEN’S MINOR LEAGUE SOCCER – AAFC Lumberjills vs Motor City FC Attempts to Break National Attendance Record

In their final Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) regular season game of the year, the AAFC Lumberjills are attempting to break the single game attendance record for a women’s minor league game played in the United States. The current record, set in 2018 by Fortuna Tulsa of Oklahoma, is 1,720. AAFC hosts instate rival Motor City FC and both teams feature many players who grew up in Michigan and have strong Michigan ties.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30pm on Sunday, July 7 at Saline High School, the same day as the FIFA Women’s World Cup final. The Women’s World Cup final starts at 11am EDT and both teams are encouraging fans to find a local bar or restaurant to watch the game and then head to Saline High School for the minor league game in the afternoon.
“This is a great opportunity to promote Michigan businesses and women’s soccer,” said Casey Bantle, Director of Operations for AAFC.
Michigan currently holds the record for highest attendance ever at a soccer game played in the USA with 109,318 fans turning up for Manchester United vs Real Madrid in 2014 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Michigan can pick up another attendance record this coming weekend with the support of the community at the AAFC vs MCFC game.
