Washtenaw County Conservation District – FALL IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO ESTABLISH TREES AND NATIVE PLANTS

FALL IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO ESTABLISH TREES AND NATIVE PLANTS

Fall is in many cases the best time to plant trees for wildlife habitat, erosion control, establishing windbreaks and screens, and reforesting open land. Washtenaw County Conservation District is offering conifer trees, a selection of native plants, animal repellents and tree planting aids as part of the Fall Tree & Native Plant Sale. Tree species available include: 3 or 4-year old bare-root transplants of Balsam Fir, White Cedar, White Pine, Norway Spruce and White Spruce. Trees can be purchased in various quantities from one to 500. All orders will be available for pick-up on Friday, October 11th from 2-6PM at the Washtenaw County Farm Council Grounds (5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd). Orders can be submitted directly on the district website at www.washtenawcd.org or downloaded from the website and sent into the office (7203 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor 48103) with payment.

New to the Fall Sale this season is a variety of Michigan native plants. Big Bluestem, Blue Lobelia, Indian Grass, Prairie Dropseed, Black-Eyed Susan, Butterfly Weed, Cardinal Flower, Prairie Smoke, Purple Coneflower and Wild Lupine can be purchased in 4 ½” pots for $4.50 each. Butterfly and Monarch Way Station kits contain 38, 2” plugs with various native species designed to feed various butterflies. Each kit includes a planting key and suggested planting layout. Designs by Nature LLC will be selling additional native plants during the pick-up time.

Orders will be accepted through September 20th 2019.
