2020 CONSERVATION AG TRAINING SERIES KICKS OFF WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO
PRODUCING CROPS FOR ALTNERNATIVE MARKETS
Farmers, homesteaders, gardeners and agricultural partners in and around Washtenaw County are
invited to attend the first Conservation Ag workshop of 2020, hosted by Washtenaw County
Conservation District (WCCD), Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) and Washtenaw County Farm
Bureau (WCFB). As farmers plan production for 2020, we invite them to learn about diversifying their
crop production into organic, niche grains, and even hemp production! Speakers will include farmer Jim
Sattelberg, founder of Everbest Organics; Dan Bewersdorff, Organic Grain Production Manager for
Herbruck Poultry Ranch; farmer Dan Rossman, Certifier for Global Organic Alliance; Megan Phillips
Goldberg, local grain purchaser and Co-Owner of Macon Creek Malt House; Emily Shettler, farmer and
procurement specialist for Pipeline Foods; and MSU Extension Field Crops Educator Eric Anderson. This
workshop is a perfect opportunity for producers curious about organic and niche crop production to
connect with experts across the supply chain, and will be followed by a related field day in August 2020.
The Organics and Alternative Markets for Field Crops workshop will take place Tuesday, February 18th,
9AM-12PM at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
This event is free and will include lunch following the program so attendees have a chance to network
with other farmers and experts.
