Public Invited to Watch B-25 Bomber and Waco Biplane Flight Operations

June, 2018—The Yankee Air Museum is inviting everyone to watch flight operations of its historic World War Two North American B-25 Mitchell bomber and its replica 1930’s era Waco biplane on Sunday June 10, 2018. The Yankee Air Museum’s hangar will be open from 10:00AM until 2:00PM. Watching the aircrews prepare and operate aircraft from the hangar is free to attend and flights will occur if weather and operating conditions permit.

The general public typically doesn’t have many opportunities to visit a working hangar,” said Kevin Walsh, Executive Director of the Yankee Air Museum. “We open these doors a couple of times each year as part of our mission to educate and inspire people about aviation technology. It works, people love the sights, sounds and scents of our historic planes.”

The Yankee Air Museum routinely offers rides, called Air Adventures, on its four flyable aircraft. On June 10, the B-25 Yankee Warrior has seats available online at www.yankeeairmuseum.org/fly click “Buy a Ride.” The Waco biplane is sold out but people can book another date. Air Adventures are $400.00 for the B-25. Yankee Air Museum members are rewarded with a $55.00 discount on bomber flights. The ride is a 40-minute experience with approximately 25 minutes of air time.

The B-17 Flying Fortress Yankee Lady will be on display and self-guided tours available. The C-47 Yankee Doodle Dandy is in Oscoda getting a new paint job and will not be on site.

Hangar 1 is on the northwest side of the airfield. Follow the road signs for west and south access to Willow Run Airport to get to Hangar 1. Entry will be through the door on the north side of Hangar 1. The address is: Willow Run Airport, Hangar 1, 801 Kirk Profit Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
