The Northville Art House presents the exhibition CONTAGIOUS CURIOSITY

The Northville Art House presents the exhibition CONTAGIOUS CURIOSITY: Todd Burroughs with Students and Instructors from the Atelier featuring paintings, drawings and photographs by Todd Burroughs with students and instructors from Metro Detroit. Each work reveals classical techniques developed in European ateliers during the 18th Century. Artists who are well known for using this approach include Sir Henry Raeburn, Charles Bargue and John Singer Sargent.

Burroughs has been practicing and teaching classical techniques for over 14 years. He currently teaches painting and drawing at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and the College for Creative Studies. The desire to pass on his artistic knowledge led to teaching being an important part of his studio practice.

“One of the things I love about teaching is that it creates an environment of intellectual curiosity that is contagious. Curiosity drives me to start a new piece of art and to sit down in front of a piece that I have been working on for months with excitement and sincerity.”

Burroughs studied at Columbia College and went on to focus on classical painting techniques at the Atelier Alternative. He received a BA Cum Laude in Historic Preservation, Fine Art from Eastern Michigan University. Among his awards and honors is the 2006 Grand Prize for the Michigan Fine Arts Competition hosted by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.

CONTAGIOUS CURIOSITY: Todd Burroughs with Students & Instructors from the Atelier opens with a reception on Friday, January 5, from 6 – 9 p.m. with a gallery talk at 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through Saturday, January 27 during Art House hours, Tuesday-Friday 12 – 5 p.m. and Saturday 12 – 4 p.m.

The event is finished.
