RE-IMAGINING PRINTMAKING: Kath Frajbis & Dennis Gordon
January 3 – February 1, 2020
The Northville Art House, 215 W Cady St, Northville, presents Re-Imagining Printmaking featuring the artwork of Kath Frajbis of Whitmore Lake and Dennis Gordon of Ypsilanti. Each artist delves into a variety of new and traditional printmaking methods reimagining what a print can be.
Frajbis’ work features rich colors and textural surfaces. She often combines lino-etching and collagraph techniques with a variety of metals and materials to build intaglio prints that resemble sculptural works of art.
“Collagraphs and etched lino [linoleum] both have a very “organic” element, which for me fit perfectly with the subject matter that interests me. I am able to create a very tactile and textural surface. Both the plates and the finished pieces are very much three dimensional,” describes Frajbis.
Gordon’s work reveals strong lines and vibrant intensity. Utilizing a laser to help create the woodcut image from a photograph, he is able to produce startling detail and linework. His woodcuts are then inked and printed on a variety of colored backgrounds.
Re-Imagining Printmaking opens on January 3 and runs through February 1 during regular gallery hours, Tues-Friday 12 – 5 pm and Sat 12 – 4 pm. A free public reception will be held on Saturday, January 11 from 1:o0 pm to 3:00 pm. Visit www.northvillearthouse.org or https://www.facebook.com/events/855571788246153/ for more information.
