The Northville Art House announces two exhibitions, Wayfarer: Plein Air Paintings of Alex Gilford and A Day in the Park: Images of Michigan State Parks

The Northville Art House announces two exhibitions, Wayfarer: Plein Air Paintings of Alex Gilford and A Day in the Park: Images of Michigan State Parks to be held from May 19 – June 18. The exhibitions will present over 75 works of art depicting the natural beauty of parks, rivers, and wildlife refuges located throughout Metro Detroit, Michigan, and the United States.

Wayfarer: Plein Air Paintings of Alex Gilford features the work of Detroit artist Alex Gilford. Alex received a BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. Since graduating, his primary focus has been on painting, drawing, and block printing with recent attention given to public murals and art projects. Alex continues to grow his career professionally through exhibitions, commissions, and residencies. Wayfarer will be his first solo exhibition and consist of approximately thirty-eight plein air oil paintings, several related to his current artist-in-residency program with Friends of the Detroit River.

Alex’s primary influences in his life and art are an interest in history and an appreciation for nature. In addition to his practice as an artist, Alex worked as a park ranger with the U.S. Forest Service and is a stewardship volunteer for a wildlife refuge and a few state parks.

Alex’s connection to the environment, nature, and public lands inspired the theme of the A Day in the Park exhibition to be held concurrently with Wayfarer.

A Day in the Park: Image of Michigan State Parks will showcase 40 photographs, paintings, and mixed media works by 29 artists selected by the Northville Art House. The work is inspired by the natural beauty of Michigan State Parks and Recreation Areas as well as Huron-Clinton MetroParks of Southeast Michigan.

Artists include: Dale Alcocer, Linda Aulicino, Kacey Bernhard, Danna Bowersox, Candace Brancik, Winnie Chrzanowski, Sue Cutler, Marianne Droste, Arlene Evans, Garth Glazier, Kevin Grow, Catherine Hetherington, Lisa Jurczak, WanChuan Kesler, Brant MacLean, Marcella A. MacLean, Bryan Mitchell, Linda Pelowski, Mandy Pringle, Sukanya Ramakrishna, Gwendolyn Roth, Gayle Sanchirico, Chuck Schroeder, Vicki Schroeder, K.K. The Wayfarer and A Day in the Park exhibitions run May 19 – June 18 at the Northville Art House, 215 W. Cady St, Northville. The public is invited to view the exhibitions and meet the artists at the Live at Five event on Friday, May 19, 5 – 8 pm. Alex Gilford will donate 10% from each sale of his paintings to the Friends of the Detroit River. The event will also feature live music, a cash bar, and visitor’s choice voting for their favorite artwork. Tickets are $5 at the door or in advance at www.northvillearthouse.org/liveatfive. The exhibition is supported by Community Financial Credit Union.
