The American Legion Post 282 of Ypsilanti – The 90th Annual Ypsilanti Independence Day Parade
The American Legion – Post 282 of Ypsilanti would like to announce in collaboration with Parade Ypsi and brought to you by various Ypsilanti Community Sponsors. That the 90th Annual Ypsilanti Independence Day Parade (The longest running parade in Michigan) will be held on July 4th at 11:00 am.
The parade begins on the corner of Oakwood and West Cross Street and will travel down West Cross Street and end at Rice Street in Ypsilanti’s Historic Depot Town.
There are over 50 participants in this year’s parade including veterans, marching bands, new comers to the parade like Shane Fitness 101 and The Neighborhood Theatre Group. We have Go Ice Cream, the Yankee Air Museum, First Fridays and classics like the Rolling Relics, Red Hat society, The Rosies and Elvis Fest. There will be awards given to Best Band, Best Variety Group, Best Float, Best Talent, and Float to best celebrate the parade’s 90th year.
The Grand Marshall will be Vic Chevrette, who moved to Ypsilanti in 1983 after serving five years in the US Army as a Flight Medic with 101st Airborne Division, 326 Medical Bn, Fort Campbell, Kentucky and also serving with the US Army Meddac Hospital in Fort Wainwright, Alaska at as an Operating Room Specialist. Upon moving to Ypsilanti, Vic worked as an Operating Room Specialist at VA Medical Center, Ann Arbor 1983 to 1993. Worked as a paid on-call firefighter for Pittsfield Twp Fire Department 1983 to 1990. In 1990, began working for Ypsilanti Township Fire Department as a Fire Fighter and retiring in 2015 as Fire Marshal. Also, from 1991 to 2015 Vic was Fire Chief for Augusta Twp Fire Department and retired from that position. Vic is currently working as Fire Chief for Superior Township Fire Department since 2015 and the Director of the Washtenaw County Hazardous Materials Response Team from 2000 to 2019. In addition to this he also sits on several other boards in Washtenaw county.

We will have volunteers walking along the parade with buckets to collect donations, in order to keep this great community event going. Supporters can also donate to the Parade via our Facebook page. The American Legion appreciates the continued support of the community for this event.
