The 2021 Arts and Acts Festival presented by the Northville Art House Returns!
THE 2021 ARTS AND ACTS FESTIVAL COMES TO WEST CADY STREET IN NORTHVILLE
After a one-year hiatus, the 2021 Arts and Acts Festival, presented by the Northville Art House, returns June 18 – 20 with three art fairs—Art in the Sun, Maker’s Mart and Young Artist Juried Art Fair—as well as live solo and international performances at its new location along West Cady Street in Northville! Visitors will enjoy fine art, crafts, entertainment, food, and family-friendly activities such as the annual Short on Words: A Poetry and Short Story Event and Northville Art House Chalk Festival. This year, dog owners can show off their pet’s artistry in the all-new Paws with Applause Northville Dog Show and Virtual Photo Contest. Admission: Free
COVID-19 Safety: The Arts and Acts Festival will follow all current COVID-19 State of Michigan and CDC guidelines with face coverings recommended to be worn by unvaccinated visitors. Visitors are asked to keep a safe social distance from others, avoid standing in crowded areas, and wash their hands frequently. Hand washing stations and sanitizer will be available throughout the festival.

Art in the Sun Juried Art Fair

Art in the Sun showcases contemporary art by fine artists from Michigan and around the country competing for monetary awards based on original artwork and booth presentation.

Short on Words: A Poetry & Short Story Event

Northville Art House Backyard
Short on Words, organized by Preservation Dental, the Office of Dr. William S. Demray, highlights the art of literature by inviting writers of all ages to share their original short stories and poetry inspired by a photograph or theme. Awards given for 1st – 3rd place in the Short Story and the Poetry categories.
This reception recognizes the participating authors from the cancelled 2020 Short on Words with light refreshments, formal introductions, and readings. The 2021 Short on Words asked authors to capture the story of the pandemic with the theme, “Write me a picture!”

Northville Art House Chalk Festival

Northville Art House Chalk Festival invites artists of all ages to transform the pavement into a checkered pattern of color and imagination while visitors can view a variety of chalk art at their feet, then vote online for their favorite!
Divisions include Children Ages 0 – 11, Teens Ages 12 – 17 and Adults Ages 18 and Older with a Jury Award and a People’s Choice Award given in each division.
Online Admission: Now through Thursday, June 17, 5 pm, $8 per square, $4 additional, max. 5
In-Person Admission: Friday and Saturday, June 18-19, $10 per square, $5 additional, max. 5
Paws with Applause Northville Dog Show
Sunday, June 20, 10 am – 3 pm
Northville Art House Grounds, next to Cady Street Dog Park
Paws for Applause Dog Show, organized in partnership with Northville Parks & Recreation, invites Metro Detroit dog owners of all breeds to show off their pet’s creative looks and styles in 10 categories as viewers celebrate their artistry and judges award prizes in each category. 15 dogs per category.
Online Admission: Now through Saturday, June 19 at 5 pm or until filled; $5 per category
Paws with Applause Virtual Photo Contest
Saturday, May 22, 8 am – Sunday, June 20, 8 pm

Paws for Applause Virtual Photo Contest, organized in partnership with Pawdacious Portraits, invites Metro Detroit dog owners of all breeds to submit photos of their pet’s artistry with a chance to become a local Northville celebrity!
The owner and pooch who receive the most online votes for their pet photo, minimum 25 votes, will win the GRAND PRIZE of an outdoor pet portrait session, a 2-page feature celebrating your pet in the upcoming book Tails of Northville, a copy of the book and more! Online Admission: $5 per photograph submission and $1 per vote

Founded in 2010 by the Northville Art House, the annual Arts and Acts Festival attracts visitors from around the Midwest to celebrate the visual and literary arts through three art fairs, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities in charming Northville, Michigan.
The Northville Art House is 501(c)3 non-profit art facility where artists and the community come together to gain exposure and appreciation for the visual arts, experiment and learn art techniques, and unleash their imagination and self-expression in exciting ways!
