Days Off Outdoors Camp: Dream Green Monday, January 15, 2018, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM $70 per child for non-members/$65 per child for members Uncover the world’s most dangerous invasive species as we explore how humans impact the world around us. Learn about water quality, food production, and imagine a future that is healthy for humans and the natural world. Every LSNC camp includes opportunities to play silly games, make art, spend time outside, and meet some of LSNC’s resident animals up-close! Winter Stargazing with Brian Ottum Saturday, January 20th, 7:30-9 pm ages 13+ $5/person Spend the evening stargazing in the warm comfort of our Energy House! Local astronomer Brian Ottum will show us live views of the moon, stars, and nebulae from his remote observatory in New Mexico on the Big Screen. If it’s a cloudy night in New Mexico, we will view images and video Brian has captured throughout the year. Popcorn and juice/soda are included. Prints and images of the sky will be available for sale. Migration Madness Sunday, January 21, 2018, 10 am – 11:30 am Youth 5-12 and their families See website for registration fee Spread your wings and soar at this exciting program all about bird habitats and behavior. Map your own migratory path and learn why birds fly north and south to get what they need to survive. Complete challenges together and learn how to identify some of LSNC’s resident raptors and their wild counterparts. You’ll even leave with some tips for making your yard or neighborhood a better habitat for migrating birds! Parent’s Night Out: Flight School Saturday, January 27th, 5-10 PM For youth currently enrolled in K-6th grade $30 per child for non-members/$25 per child for members It’s a night out for grown-ups while the kids enjoy an exciting evening at LSNC. Study our resident hawks, falcons, and owls up close to discover how birds soar high in the sky or maneuver so quickly through the trees. Build your own flying device and take notes on designs and innovations in your lab journal. Parents’ Night Out includes a Panera sandwich box with PB&J or Turkey as well as a late-night popcorn snack. Families are welcome to send their child with a brown-bag dinner. Activities will be outside as much as possible, so please come dressed for the weather! Nature Storytime January 10 & 14: Feathers & Wings January 17: Flying Home January 24&28: Chirp, Peep, Caw! January 31: Nests Select Wednesdays and Sundays 10-11 am, Ages 1-5. Caregiver required and free! $5/child for non-members, $4/child for LSNC members Outdoor environments are a great way to engage all of your toddler’s developing senses, and get a bit of exercise! LSNC has many opportunities for you and your little one to explore and appreciate the outdoors, such as live animal visits, hikes, stories, and hands-on activities. Each session includes indoor and outdoor activities – so make sure to dress for the weather! Have a 4-5 year old that is ready to try a drop-off program? Take a look at our Nature Tykes Preschool Program that also runs on Wednesday mornings. Nature Tykes Preschool Program January: 10, 17, 24, 31: Taking Flight! Wednesdays 9:45 – 11:15 am, Ages 4-5 without caregiver. Cost: varies by month, see lesliesnc.org Our Nature Tykes Preschool Program gives your 4-5 year old the opportunity to learn and grow independently in this 1.5 hour drop-off program. It is a great supplement to, or step towards, a full-day preschool program. Registration is by the month, and each session is designed to encourage your little one to ask questions, explore the outdoors, and develop important classroom skills as we hike in Black Pond Woods, meet live animals, make crafts, and run hands-on experiments. Activities are indoors and outdoors – so make sure to dress for the weather! Have a 1-3 year old that is not quite old enough to join Nature Tykes? Take a look at our Nature Storytime program that also runs on Wednesday mornings.
