GrieveWell will host Ann Arbor’s one and only Kite Festival as a hybrid event with both in-person and virtual activities

GrieveWell will host Ann Arbor’s one and only Kite Festival as a hybrid event with both in-person and virtual activities. This event is free and open to the public.

The in-person GrieveWell Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, June 26 from 1-4 PM at Lillie Park in partnership with Pittsfield Township. Lillie park is located on 4365 Platt Rd, 48108.

Early registration for the in-person event is encouraged to facilitate planning a safe and enjoyable experience and expedite your entry to the in-person event.

This year, the 5th annual Kite Festival will feature dancing kite shows by professional kite flyers, plenty of space to fly your own kites, family fun activities provided in partnership with Pittsfield Township, the Scrap Collective, and Fit4Mom Ann Arbor with food and beverage for purchase. Locals can also purchase an easy-to-fly Frustrationless Flyer for $5 to decorate and fly at the event.

Virtual elements will precede the event and people from all over can join in the livestream during the event on social media channels. GrieveWell will co-host a virtual Fly and Remember Memorial Service at noon on Saturday, June 26 in partnership with Arbor Hospice and Ele’s Place. The event will invite participants to decorate their kite and share memories of their loved one. Participants must register in order to participate and receive the zoom link.

“We are so excited to bring the joy and whimsy of kites to our community. Our Hybrid Kite Festival offers something for everyone,” said Carol Lessure, Executive Director of GrieveWell. “The outdoor, in-person event at Lillie Park will feature kite flying and family fun. Online, we will live stream from the park and offer two ways to remember and honor our loved ones – either together with the Fly and Remember Memorial or on your own with a downloadable activity.”

Note that this year’s event also includes:
– An online Kite Decorating Contest open to anyone in the United States with the chance to vote for the Kite Decorating Contest winners
– The opportunity to reflect on your grief journey using the Changes Kites Activity developed by Ele’s Place

– The chance to win prizes for those that share kite flying and their designs on GrieveWell’s social media during the festival.

In order to keep participants safe and ensure the event is enjoyable for all, Lillie Park will feature handwashing stations, suggested areas for community kite flying, and small shaded tents for your group to watch our professional kite flyers and engage in activities together.

We encourage mask wearing when social distancing is not possible including activities where young, unvaccinated children are present.

The annual GrieveWell Kite Festival is made possible by generous support from over a dozen community businesses including our corporate sponsors.

The GrieveWell Kite Festival will take place rain or shine!
