4th Annual Bomber Buffing Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Yankee Air Museum’s Hangar

4th Annual Bomber Buffing Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Yankee Air Museum’s Hangar
Opportunity knocks – Yankee Air Museum’s 24th Annual Bomber Buffing event is going to be held on Saturday May, 4, beginning at 10:00 AM at Hangar One, Willow Run Airport, Ypsilanti MI.
Here’s the deal:  participants pay nothing, and will:
Get up close and personal with two aviation icons – the Museum’s B-17G Yankee Lady and B-25D Yankee Warrior
Help get these legends ready for the 2019 flying season by polishing their aluminum skin
Meet some people who share a common passion – aviation history
Enjoy a free pizza lunch with soft drinks
Talk to some of the Willow Run Tribute Rosies, who commemorate the work of female defense plant workers during WWII – such as at the Willow Run Bomber Plant
Walk through the remaining part of the Bomber Plant, which is now being renovated.  Museum staff will be available to provide an update on construction progress.
All the Museum asks from participants are a few soft rags and some elbow grease.
As an added bonus, people will have the opportunity to purchase rides on either the Museum’s C-47 (cost -$95 per ride) or WACO biplane ($225 per seat, $325 for a double, with a weight restriction of less than 350 pounds).  This is a great way to experience the joy of flight – and it just may pique one’s curiosity for a ride in the B-17 or the B-25 later in the flying season.
The Museum’s Executive Director, Kevin Walsh notes: “The Bomber Buffing event is one of the Museum’s highlights of the year – we love getting people close up to our aircraft.  Why not come out and see for yourself?”
Yankee Air Museum security volunteers will be on hand to help direct free parking and access to the Bomber Buffing.   As in previous years, aluminum polish will be provided by Mother’s Polishes, Waxes and Cleaners.
Hangar 1 is on the northwest side of the airfield.  Entry will be through the door under the awning of M2 Aircraft Management, Willow Run Airport, Hangar 1, 801 Kirk Profit Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48198.  The Bomber Buffing event is free to everyone and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
