Final preparations are well underway for the Yankee Air Museum’s Third Annual Detroit Aviation and Airline Collectibles Show to be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. The show is being held at historic Willow Run Airport, Hangar 1, Bay 7 and will feature flyable aircraft on display and airplane rides available for purchase. Hangar 1 is located at 801 Kirk Profit Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48198. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children under age 15 are free.
“Our aviation collectibles show continues to improve,” said Kevin Walsh, Executive Director of the Yankee Air Museum. “We are planning to have one of our largest artifacts on display this year. Called ‘Warning Star,’ it’s a massive spy plane based on the legendary Lockheed Constellation. People will be able to tour this U.S. Navy EC-121 and see electronic surveillance technology from the 1950’s and 60’s.”
Walsh believes it’s important for people for people to see a variety of aircraft, and this is a great opportunity. He explained that having the Detroit Aviation and Airline Collectibles Show at an active airfield is a major difference between it and other similar shows across the nation. He added that Yankee Air Museum is the only aviation museum in southeastern Michigan and northern Ohio offering plane rides making it an exciting day trip.
Walsh said there are already over 40 tables committed for displaying and selling a wide variety of aircraft memorabilia. In addition, with weather permitting, the Museum will be selling rides
on its open-cockpit Waco biplane throughout the day, on a walk-up basis. Hot dogs and soda will also be available.
The Museum will also be offering walking tours of its recently acquired section of the historic Willow Run Bomber Plant. Saturday, May 5 will likely be the only day for the public to see the inside of the Bomber Plant this spring and summer due to an ambitious construction season beginning in June.
The Yankee Air Museum will be open all day and there will be no charge for admission. There will be a free shuttle service to and from the Museum.
